Minimal-Prep and No-Prep Veneers in Bellevue, WA

A beautiful new smile. A careful approach to preserving your natural teeth.

You want to love your smile—and feel confident about the treatment behind it.

At Da Vinci Dental in Bellevue, Washington, preserving healthy natural tooth structure is central to our approach to porcelain veneers. Dr. Beau Keller and Dr. Andrew Keller provide minimal-prep veneers and, for appropriate candidates, true no-prep veneers, with treatment designed around your existing teeth, facial features, bite, and goals.

Our Minimal-Drill Veneers approach aims to remove only the tooth structure necessary for an appropriate fit and result. Our Drill-Free Veneers approach involves no drilling or mechanical reduction of the natural teeth receiving no-prep veneers.

Dr. Beau personally designs every veneer case at our practice. With experience from thousands of veneer cases, we combine individualized smile design, pressed e.max porcelain, and careful attention to the teeth supporting your new smile.

Do veneers require shaving down your teeth?

Veneers do not automatically require extensive tooth reduction. Depending on your starting teeth and the changes you want, treatment may involve limited, selective shaping or no mechanical preparation at all.

If you have seen photographs of teeth reduced to small pegs, you may understandably worry that veneers require the same approach. Veneers and crowns are different restorations. A veneer primarily covers the front surface of a tooth and may extend over its edge; a crown surrounds much more of the tooth.

At Da Vinci Dental, we begin by asking how much of your natural tooth structure we can preserve while achieving an appropriate result.

Can we improve the shape by adding porcelain? Is there already enough room? Would a small adjustment prevent the finished tooth from looking too prominent? Would another treatment better protect your teeth?

These decisions belong at the beginning of your smile design.

A meaningful change in your smile may be possible with surprisingly little change to your natural teeth.

What are minimal-prep veneers?

Minimal-prep veneers are custom porcelain veneers placed after conservative, selective shaping of the teeth. The purpose is to create the space needed for the restoration while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as the case allows.

This is the philosophy behind our Minimal-Drill Veneers approach.

Preparation is planned for each individual tooth. One area may need a small adjustment, while another already has enough space for porcelain. The amount depends on tooth position, existing enamel, desired shade, bite, and the proposed design.

We aim to preserve enamel wherever possible while allowing the veneers to have appropriate thickness and natural contours.

“Minimal-prep” is not one fixed measurement for every patient. It describes an approach: make each adjustment purposeful and avoid unnecessary removal of healthy tooth structure.

What are no-prep veneers?

True no-prep veneers are thin porcelain veneers placed without drilling or mechanically reducing the natural teeth to make room for them.

Treatment uses space already available in the smile. This can be particularly useful when adding porcelain will improve a tooth’s size or shape without making it overly prominent.

At Da Vinci Dental, we call this our Drill-Free Veneers approach.

For suitable teeth, no tooth structure is drilled or shaved away to create space. The teeth still require cleaning and enamel conditioning for adhesive bonding.

That distinction matters: no-prep describes the absence of mechanical reduction. It does not mean the enamel surface remains completely untouched or that future removal is guaranteed to leave it unchanged.

Some smiles benefit from a combination. Certain teeth may qualify for no-prep veneers, while others need minimal preparation.

The treatment should fit your teeth. We explain the recommendation for your individual smile before you decide.

Why preserving enamel matters

Enamel is the hard outer surface of your teeth. It also provides a favorable foundation for bonding porcelain veneers.

Clinical research has associated greater dentin exposure—the layer beneath enamel—with less favorable veneer survival. That supports preserving enamel wherever feasible, alongside careful case selection and bonding technique. [1]

For us, conservation is part of the quality of the treatment.

A finished smile should look beautiful, but the planning must also consider what supports it. The condition of the underlying teeth, the fit of the porcelain, the health of the gums, and the way the teeth meet all deserve attention.

What we preserve underneath your veneers matters as much as what you see when you smile.

Who may qualify for no-prep veneers?

No-prep veneers are most useful when the desired improvement can be achieved by adding to the teeth.

Potential candidates may have:

  • Naturally small or narrow teeth.

  • Teeth positioned slightly inward.

  • Certain spaces between teeth.

  • Tooth shapes that would benefit from added width or contour.

  • Enough room for porcelain without excessive bulk.

An examination is necessary to determine suitability. Teeth that already project forward, significant crowding, or a substantial change in color can make a no-prep approach more challenging.

We also evaluate the health of your teeth and gums and the way your teeth come together.

The question is whether no-prep veneers can achieve your goals with appropriate shape, fit, and function.

Why a little preparation can sometimes produce a better result

Avoiding drilling is valuable when an additive restoration fits the situation. However, no-prep is not automatically the best choice for every tooth.

Adding porcelain to an already prominent tooth can make it appear thicker. The transition near the gums also requires careful planning. Published no-prep techniques emphasize appropriate case selection, margin placement, and avoiding excessive contours. [3]

In some situations, a small, targeted adjustment allows a more natural shape and a better transition between tooth and porcelain.

Our approach is to preserve healthy structure while considering the complete restoration. We explain where preparation is recommended, what it accomplishes, and whether alternatives are available.

Veneers designed to look natural on your face

A beautiful smile involves more than straight teeth and a bright shade.

Tooth length, width, contours, surface detail, and the relationship to your lips all affect the finished appearance. Your preferences matter, too.

At Da Vinci Dental, Dr. Beau personally designs your smile with you.

We discuss the concerns patients often have: teeth looking too large, too white, too bulky, or too uniform. Some people want a subtle improvement. Others want a more noticeable transformation.

Our goal is to understand your preferences and develop a design that feels appropriate for your face.

Conservative preparation and natural appearance are planned together. The proposed shape helps determine where porcelain can be added and where limited adjustment might be necessary.

You should feel heard by the doctor designing your smile.

Why we use pressed e.max porcelain

Da Vinci Dental uses pressed e.max porcelain, a lithium disilicate glass-ceramic used for custom dental restorations.

IPS e.max Press can be used to create thin veneers for suitable cases. Its manufacturer identifies situations in which sufficient space allows preparation to be avoided altogether. [2]

The material supports our conservative treatment philosophy, but the result also depends on smile design, laboratory craftsmanship, fit, and bonding.

We consider the starting color of your teeth, your desired shade, and the proposed contours. These choices help determine how the porcelain should be designed for your particular smile.

We want the finished veneers to look appropriate for you while respecting the teeth underneath them.

Are conservative veneers safe?

For appropriately selected patients, minimal-prep and no-prep veneers can be suitable treatment options. Preserving enamel is important, but safety also depends on diagnosis, healthy teeth and gums, fit, bonding, bite, and ongoing care.

Decay and gum disease need attention before cosmetic treatment. Veneers can still develop problems such as sensitivity, chipping, loosening, or gum irritation. Any enamel removed during preparation does not grow back.

Our goal is for you to understand your treatment rather than feel reassured by a label alone.

You should know what will happen to your teeth, why the approach is appropriate, and what care your smile will need afterward.

What happens during the veneer process?

First, we discuss your goals. Tell us what you want to change and what concerns you. Preserving your teeth, achieving a natural shade, or avoiding oversized teeth should all be part of the conversation.

Next, we evaluate your teeth and bite. An examination helps determine which options are appropriate and whether preparation is necessary.

Dr. Beau develops your smile design. We consider the proposed shapes, proportions, shade, and number of teeth involved.

We explain the preparation plan. You should understand which teeth qualify for no-prep veneers and where limited shaping would be recommended.

Your custom porcelain is fabricated and placed. The fit, appearance, and bite are evaluated, and the veneers are bonded using appropriate adhesive procedures.

Your appointment details depend on the treatment plan. Before proceeding, you should have a clear understanding of the process and its cost.

How much do veneers cost?

At Da Vinci Dental, pressed e.max porcelain veneers are $1,850 per tooth, with no additional fees for the quoted veneer treatment.

Your veneer total is simply the number of veneers multiplied by $1,850.

For example, eight veneers total $14,800, and ten veneers total $18,500.

The number recommended depends on your smile and goals. We explain that recommendation so you can understand both the treatment and the investment before deciding.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get veneers without having my teeth shaved?

Some patients can. True no-prep veneers involve no drilling or mechanical reduction to create space. Others need selective preparation. Your examination determines which approach fits your teeth and desired result.

Are no-prep veneers reversible?

Do not assume that no-prep means guaranteed reversibility. Veneers are bonded to conditioned enamel, and future removal may affect the tooth surface. Discuss bonding, maintenance, and possible replacement before treatment.

Can veneers make my teeth look straighter?

Veneers can change visible tooth contours in selected cases, but they do not move roots or correct every bite problem. Orthodontics may be the more conservative option when tooth position needs substantial correction.

Will I need very white veneers?

No. Shade is a choice we discuss with you. Tell us whether you prefer a subtle natural shade or a brighter change. Your starting tooth color and the overall design also influence the plan.

How long can veneers last?

Veneers can function for many years, but they are not lifetime restorations. Longevity varies with the condition of the teeth, preparation, bonding, bite forces, and ongoing care. Repair or replacement may eventually be necessary.

How do I care for them?

Continue brushing with fluoride toothpaste, cleaning between your teeth, and attending regular dental visits. Avoid biting hard objects or using your teeth as tools. Ask whether your bite or grinding habits warrant a protective appliance.

Could another treatment preserve more tooth structure?

Yes. Whitening, orthodontics, or selective composite bonding may be appropriate alternatives. A conservative consultation considers what needs to change and which treatment can accomplish it with suitable tradeoffs.
